When a muscle or area of soft tissue is injured, such as in an auto accident, the fascia around these tissues becomes short and tight, causing pain. Fascia is connective tissue that surrounds and connects muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, and nerves .The active myofascial release is designed to relieve pain in these structures by applying gentle, prolonged pressure on the affected area. It is a very popular technique since it is not a cookie cutter therapy and each treatment is specifically tailored to the patient based on his/her body and pain situation. It is also popular due to the low-force needed for the technique paired with a high level of comfort and safety.
This method is performed by directly feeling the sore areas of a patient to determine where the source of the pain is btecause each person’s body and injury are unique and must be treated uniquely. Often pain sufferers have a hard time pinpointing exactly where it hurts or are unaware of how sensitive it is until a practitioner directly feels the area of tightness. After applying light pressure to the area until the fascia relax and release, Dr. Jarrod Wilner moves slowly across the rest of the fascia in the area until the rest of the area including the deep tissue is relaxed. Many people are initially surprised at how effective, gentle and relaxing this treatment can be – some even fall asleep on the table!
